PROFILE
The Parkgate Hotel is Cardiff’s newest, luxury hotel based in the centre of town, just a stone’s throw away from the Principality Stadium. The new hotel comprises of both refurbishment and new build elements, taking on the challenge of combining the old Post Office building along with the old Inland Revenue/County Court building and bolting on a 7-story new build extension was no mean feat.
The Grade II Listed buildings and the new build element have been brought to life through an alliance between the Welsh Rugby Union, property developer Rightacres, and hotel operator The Celtic Manor Resort group, The Celtic Collection.
CMB have been involved with the project early 2019 and we had ‘feet on the ground’ in October 2019.
The venue boasts 169 guest bedrooms including several bespoke suites, an impressive reception/tearoom area with fine architecture of the original building, a private dining area, function and pre-function suites, a lounge bar and a main bar, a restaurant and to top it off…a rooftop spa overlooking Cardiff’s skyline.
CMB were appointed by the Principal Contractor’s, BECT Building Contractors, the circa £5 million mechanical contract on the project, and with our subcontractors, provided the following systems:
-
Low Temperature Hot Water Heating via gas fired boilers
-
Domestic Services to all bedrooms and public spaces via plate heat exchangers
-
Ventilation (ALMAC Engineering) via Barkell and System Aire Air Handling Units, extract fans and Heat Recovery Units
-
Sanitaryware and Plumbing (KS Barry) comprising of Villeroy and Boch exclusive sanitaryware to bedrooms and Public Spaces
-
Trend BMS system designed and installed by SCS
-
VRF Daikin Air Conditioning throughout the building (CMB Renewables and Dragon Air)
-
Life safety Smoke Control systems protecting the basement, carpark and lobbies (SCS Smoke Control)
-
Full thermal insulation package on all systems installed by Poplar Insulation
-
Sprinkler System (COMPCO)
Despite being a complicated and challenging project, paired with the interruption and uncertainty of a global pandemic, the hotel was handed over in October 2021 in time for Welsh Rugby Autumn Internationals.
A special mention to all the CMB site operatives and subcontractors who have done a great job throughout the course of this project. This is yet another CMB addition to the Cardiff skyline.
