CMB Celebrate World Youth Skills Day With 3 Local Primary Schools

Updated: Jul 16

Today is World Youth Skills Day and we are celebrating by sharing a project that 4 of our CMB apprentices recently worked on for 3 local primary schools.

Marcus Fowler, Ethan Thomas, Charlie Williams and Tom Brace recently broadened their skillset by building a water-wall for 3 primary schools in the area. The idea was to not only engage with and show our support for local schools, but also to encourage young children to think about how day to day things work in both a fun and educational way.

These environmentally-friendly water-walls were built with sustainability in mind, having been created from repurposed recycled materials from CMB sites and were installed at Tredegar Park Primary, Marshfield Primary and Little Trees Nursery Celtic Springs.

Tredegar Park commented: “We feel very grateful for the donation of the water-wall and our children are thoroughly enjoying using this great new addition to our outdoor area. It was fantastic to be considered as part of this initiative as our school places great value on apprenticeship learning. We constantly remind our children that there are many routes to a successful career - university and unemployment are not the only options in life. This initiative has brought together our values and beliefs at the school and we hope that we can build on this relationship to support our school community for years to come.”

Katie Archer of Marshfield Primary added: “The children absolutely love the water-wall and play with it every day. Thank you again for your generous donation and for the time and effort everyone put in to creating it for us.”

CMB Project Director, Bertie Borley, who came up with this idea, said: “CMB as a company have always been keen to engage and support local community projects. The apprentices have really enjoyed constructing the water-walls and I hope the children who play with them are inspired to become the next generation of carpenters, plumbers and engineers that our industry needs”

Thank you also to the multiple contractors for their collaboration on this project including: KLA, Andrew Scotts, Willis Systems, LA Industrial and IQE. As a result of their kind donations and our cost-effective procedures, we were able to donate the remaining proceeds to a local charity, The Llanrumney Hall Community Trust, and are proud to be supporting the Cardiff Community further with this £500 donation.
