Over the Christmas period, we had the absolute honour of once again sponsoring Llanrumney’s own Rhys Edwards in his latest fight against Peter McGrail as an undercard for the rematch between Oleksander Usyk and Tyson Fury.
Rhys was given a mere 3 days’ notice before flying to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to take on this incredible opportunity with no sparring, minimal training and to fight one of the best amateur fighters the UK has ever produced in McGrail.
Despite losing on fine margins, Rhys put up an incredible fight and showed on one of the biggest stages in the world that, as he put it, “I just proved I belong at this level”.
Rhys told BBC Sport: "It's the biggest platform I've ever boxed on - on the undercard of Usyk v Fury - it's a pinch myself moment. I’m gutted I didn't get the win but I'm proud of myself and proud of my performance.”
