National walking month is an annual initiative that promotes walking as a free, easy, and accessible form of exercise and transportation. This campaign was set up by Health and Transport groups to encourage people across all ages and backgrounds to get outside and embrace the simple, yet profound health benefits of walking, while also contributing to sustainable transportation.
As a company, we agree with what this promotes and so decided to set up a company walking challenge over the month of May. We invited all CMB employees to take part in our Strava Challenge – CMB Walks, which also fell in the same month as Mental Health Awareness Week where the theme for this year coincidentally was ‘Movement: Moving For Your Mental Health’.
CMB Walks was set up for our employees to track their walks and engage with other staff members on a fitness platform. This came with the chance of winning cash prizes for walking the furthest distance across the month.
Many employees joined in on the challenge from a range of different offices and sites and it was a pleasure to see a large number of us taking part in this important initiative, getting active and engaging through fitness!
With that being said, we’d like to say a special congratulations to:
Our First Place Office Winner, Michael Owen, who walked 154.58 miles across 37 walks.
Second place Office Winner, Neil Smith, who walked 102 miles across 37 walks.
And First Place Site Winner, Curtis Anna, who walked 18.38 miles across 12 walks.
Michael, Neil and Curtis all won cash prizes for their efforts throughout this competition and it was well deserved! We’d also like to say well done to Joanne Walliams who walked 91.6 miles across 24 walks and Annmarie Borley-Smith walked 42.3 miles across 15 walks.
A huge congratulations and thank you to all who took part in this challenge, you tallied a total distance of 536.96 miles across 163 activities - an incredible achievement from our staff force!
Walking is said to be one of the easiest ways to improve our health, so we are encouraging our staff to continue tracking their walks on Strava, in CMB Walks, to build an active community within our company.
