On 7th November 2024, Cardiff Council signed a contract for CMB’s parent company, BESL, to step in and act as interim Principal Contractor to deliver Cardiff’s Fairwater Community Campus whilst it goes out to tender. This £110 Million education campus will host 3 separate schools on one site, making it the largest project in the Welsh Government's Sustainable Communities for Learning programme.

The campus will have facilities available to the community outside of school use, such as a 3G rugby pitch with a spectator stand, a 7-a-side football pitch, multi-use games areas, external play areas to promote occupational therapy experiences and a sports and wellbeing centre comprising of a four-court sports hall, activity studio, a gym and an accessible climbing wall. The site will also feature a vocational Enterprise Hub, enabling the Council’s Cardiff Commitment partner organisations to work with ALN pupils, building career paths and helping the transition from education to employment.

This scheme holds great significance for many across Cardiff and BESL are honoured to lead a project of this scale and be part of something that will deliver exceptional value to the surrounding area.

In our first 8 weeks we have made good progress, having quickly mobilised and restarted works. With now over 260 operatives on site, activity has resumed ahead of schedule and the supply chain has embraced the culture of teamwork and the no-grief policy of BESL. With significant developments being made every day, we are pleased to give you our first update with the progress of Fairwater Community Campus.

You can watch the below footage to take a look at the first update since BESL stepped in as interim Principal Contractor.
