ESME TEST SECTION 1
Swansea Arena is a brand-new state of the art £50 Million 3,500 capacity auditorium based in the heart of Swansea overlooking the magnificent beach. The latest addition to the ever-expanding £135 Million Copr Bay One Scheme cannot be missed as you drive down Oystermouth Road into the City Centre.
The Arena consists of a VIP Lounge, multiple meeting rooms for corporate gatherings, function rooms, a bar and dining area, as well as the main auditorium where live music, comedy and theatrical events take place. In the first 18 months of opening, the venue has already hosted names including Jack Whitehall, Russell Howard, Jimmy Carr, Kaiser Chiefs and Royal Blood.
The building even has approximately 100,000 LED bulbs fitted on the outer structure, showing images and visuals to give an artistic feel to the music and theatre venue (as seen below). It also boasts a 347-space car park with 21 disabled spaces and 10 electric vehicle charging spaces, which CMB installed as part of our contract.
In addition to the above, the roof of the car park was landscaped to provide a brand-new coastal park incorporating seating, planting areas, soft play and water features. The whole development being linked to the city centre by the brand-new bridge across Oystermouth Road.
CMB carried out the Mechanical & Electrical services on this project undertaking the following works:
-
HV & LV Distribution, Transformers, Life Safety Generator and UPS Central Battery Systems.
-
External Car Park Lighting and Associated Control Systems.
-
Smoke extract and control systems.
-
Loading Bay Ventilation.
-
Supply and Extract Ventilation Systems utilising High Level Jet Diffusers in the Auditorium and Air Socks in reception and public areas.
-

-
Fully Automatic Building Management System
-

-

-
General Lighting and Associated Control Systems.
-
Public Realm & Landscape Lighting.
CMB West Director, Peter Davies stated: “It was a pleasure for CMB to be involved in such an iconic building which will define the Swansea waterfront landscape for the foreseeable future. Once again, CMB have shown that we can deliver high quality landmark buildings that benefit the surrounding community.
The list of acts that have already played the arena and the high profile of such a building can only be a great advert for what CMB can do.
I would like to personally thank all the CMB team that were involved in the project delivery.”
Deputy Leader for Welsh Local Government, Councillor Rob Stewart, added:
“Copr Bay will create a fantastic new leisure destination and hundreds of jobs and opportunities for local people, while also helping support local businesses and generate more footfall and spending for our city centre.
We’ve delivered this scheme during a pandemic, so everyone involved deserves enormous credit – from council staff and funding partners to our contractors and Ambassador Theatre Group, who will operate the arena on our behalf and bring world class entertainment to Swansea.”

ESME TEST SECTION 2
Llanrumney Sports Complex is located in the East of Cardiff and is now the official home to Cardiff City Football Clubs Academy Team.
CMB successfully secured the contract to deliver this project as Principal Contractor back in November 2020, and with planning permission received 2 years later, we successfully handed over the project in less than 12 months of construction time to a satisfied client.
The 16-acre site consists of 5 grass pitches, 2 goal keeping areas, an outdoor 3G, reception area, changing rooms, a restaurant, boardroom, player care zone, communal staff office, an analysis suite, 2 x classrooms, a family zone, a staff changing area and finally the famous repurposed Dr Who building which is now the main 60m x 40m indoor arena, named after the legendary Peter Whittingham.
We proudly attended the grand opening of the Academy facility in September of last year. As Principal Contractor on this project, it was an honour to see the doors open to this state-of-the-art academy facility which will be instrumental in investing and enabling grassroots football in the city.
In attendance, was CMB Managing Director and Cardiff City FC Director Steve Borley, CCFC First Team Manager Erol Bulut, Leader of Cardiff Council Huw Thomas, CCFC Director Ken Choo, Academy Manager Gavin Chesterfield and many more.
These facilities will be vital in investing in the future of Cardiff’s youth and will hopefully be a steppingstone in creating the future Aaron Ramsey’s of the next generation. Aaron himself visited the Sports Complex the week of its opening to meet some of the children from the CCFC Foundation and to have a tour of the new Academy.
Steve Borley commented on Ramsey’s involvement in the Club and its Academy, saying:
"It's always great to see youngsters coming through because every City fan wants to see one of their own… Aaron has an affinity to this club and has demonstrated that and he is going to do a great job of bringing through more of those youngsters, whether they are nine or nineteen.”
CMB Project Director, Bertie Borley, commented on the project saying:
“I was very pleased to oversee the construction of this project on behalf of CMB, as Llanrumney is where my family and I grew up. It’s great to see my local community have these fantastic state-of-the-art facilities to benefit future sports teams and the city of Cardiff and for CMB to be so involved in overseeing the construction of these facilities has been an honour and a privilege.”
A big thank you to all those who were involved in not only the grand opening of this new sports complex but also those who played a part in developing and constructing the facilities, including: South Wales Sports Grounds, SSS Fabrication, Korbuild, Puma Floors, Poplar Insulation, Securalec, Bagnalls, Collinsons, Glass Facades and NC Ceramics.
